Detroit Future City: The Making of Detroit’s Long-Term Strategic Framework Plan

Thursday, March 28
1:00-2:00pm ET

In fall 2010, Mayor Dave Bing launched an impressive effort to reinvent the city. The Detroit Works Project was an ambitious process of long term planning with substantial technical and civic engagement. Over the course of 24-months, city officials managed a public process that drew upon interactions between Detroit residents, civic leaders, and technical experts to craft and refine a shared vision for Detroit’s future, and recommend specific actions for reaching that future.

The Detroit Strategic Framework Plan – Detroit Future City – articulates a future in the context of city systems, neighborhood vision, the critical question of land use, vacant land and buildings, and the need for greater civic capacity to address the systemic change necessary for Detroit’s success.

On Thursday, March 28, 2013, the ULI Rose Center for Public Leadership invites you to a presentation about the Framework and the journey city officials’ underwent to develop this comprehensive strategy.

Please join us as Malik R. Goodwin, Vice President- Project Management, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and Dan Kinkead, Hamilton Anderson Associates, co-lead of the Technical Team, provide context to the city’s approach to developing this comprehensive plan, review the principles at the heart of the process, and discuss the political and practical lessons learned by the endeavor.

This is a great opportunity for ULI public members to learn practical strategies and tools – drawn from real-time events – that can be taken and applied in their community.
