Manager, Program Coordination and Outreach (Washington, D.C.)

POSITION SUMMARY: ULI is a global organization with 73 District/National Councils (D/NCs) serving more than 32,000 members. ULI District/National Councils deliver the ULI mission at the local level by providing members with education, networking, and opportunities to give back in the community. The District/National Council Department facilitates the exchange of information that strengthens the capacity of the Institute to deliver its mission at the local level, via its D/NCs.

In support of departmental objectives, the manager will serve as a liaison between and across the 73 D/NCs and the global headquarters, initiating, coordinating, and/or leading processes that facilitate communication about ULI’s research, expertise, and programming priorities generated by both the global headquarters’ office and by the D/NCs.

The manager will build and utilize a variety of organizing tools that connect multiple ULI departments in the global headquarters with staff/member leaders of all D/NCs. Such tools will include monthly reports, a speakers bureau, a database of resources that support D/NC program implementation, conference calls and meetings for certain member networks, newsletters, administration of the Urban Innovation Grant Program, and other services that meet the needs of the manager and the department team.

The manager will provide customer-friendly service that fosters teamwork and mutual support in a highly dynamic environment. This full-time exempt position is located in Washington, D.C

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Active participation as an integral member of the District/National Council Department team: Develop programming and initiatives that further the mission of ULI and the health and success of the D/NC system on a global basis.
  • Liaison between the District/National Council staff and the staff in the Content Department, Centers and Initiatives: Schedule and help promote ULI’s road show programs.
  • Webinars: Organize topical webinars (interchanges) for DC staff and members that facilitate the exchange of information with Content Department, Centers and Initiatives, and D/NC staff, including a calendar of global programs, publication of reports, and highlights of outstanding and replicable D/NC programming.
  • Impact Report: Coordinate, write, and market the ULI Impact Report as a summary of DC activities and the difference they have made in their communities.
  • Urban Innovation Grant Program: Manage and execute the grant application process, the committee review process, and the call for applications; track progress; and showcase results.
  • Database: Manage the database of resources that includes all Technical Assistance Program (TAP) reports, track trends, and provide resources to D/NC staff for implementation.
  • Networks for Programming Chairs and for the Chairs for Mission Advancement (CMAs): Plan and organize bimonthly videoconference calls and newsletter updates for CMAs.
  • Monthly Reports on Trends and Analysis of D/NC Programming: Analyze, monitor, and report topical trends on D/NC programs/events using a variety of presentation tools, including PowerPoint, Domo, Excel pivot tables, and Prezi.
  • Liaison with Designated District Councils:Track and monitor activities of a designated set of District Councils.

REQUIREMENTS: The qualities of this person are very important. Interpersonal skills and record of teamwork will be weighed heavily in the selection process.

Education, Experience, and Skills 

  • BA required, with an emphasis in urban studies, urban economics, sustainability, or related field.
  • Five years of project management experience, preferably working with a member-driven organization such as ULI.
  • Advanced software skills (Word, Excel, graphic design, website software, pivot tables, new communications technologies).
  • Strong professional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to work with senior business and public sector executives.
  • Communication background a plus.

QUALITIES:

  • Talented in developing graphic materials for presentations and marketing ULI products.
  • Values opportunity to brainstorm with others.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to ULI events.
  • Strong ability to initiate tasks and assume responsibility for them, and to work with minimal supervision in a high-production position.
